Mayor Jon Raven and Councillors of the City of Logan invite you to HAPPENING in Logan, an immersive evening of performances, installations, video art and live experiences that will transform Logan Art Gallery into a site of discovery, creativity and exchange.

Inspired by the radical ‘Happenings’ of the 1960s and 1970s, audiences are invited to move freely through the gallery as performances, installations, video artworks and unexpected encounters emerge throughout the evening. Moving between live and screen-based experiences, HAPPENING in Logan transforms the gallery into a dynamic environment where contemporary art unfolds in real time and offers audiences an exciting introduction to Beyond frames a major exhibition of video art from the National Gallery of Australia presented through the Sharing the National Collection program. Audiences will also experience the launch of Test frames, a series of newly commissioned moving image works by local and regionally connected artists to the gallery, with a new work unveiled every six months throughout the exhibition’s two-year run.

Beyond frames brings more than five decades of ambitious, experimental video art to Logan Art Gallery. Featuring works by Bill Viola, Tracey Moffatt and Gary Hillberg, William Kentridge, Bruce Nauman, Richard Serra, William Wegman, Sophie Calle & Gregory Shephard, and Ellen Jose & Marshall White the exhibition explores how artists have used the moving image to challenge conventions, test new ideas and expand the boundaries of contemporary art.
