Dorchester St @ Sunday Hot Club

Sunday Hot Club’s first ever gig was with Dany and his friends. We asked Dany Avanzini what a fun gig for him would look like – He got a little bit nostalgic and remembered the endless jams at his place in Highgate Hill. For so many of us it was such a great incubator for so many different Gypsy Jazz collaborations and projects.

In his words, ‘Dorchester Street was a place where music never stopped, a house that brought people together, where a real sense of community grew and daily sessions turned into lasting memories.

So for this Sunday Hot club show we thought we’d draw inspiration from those nights and we collected a set of tunes that were shaped within those walls.’

Blending original compositions with reworked gypsy jazz classics inspired by Django Reinhardt, the sound carries the energy of those loose, rhythmic days, honest, spontaneous, and true to where it all began.

Hidden in the industrial precinct of Albion, not far from where it all began, Sunday Hot Club has made its home at New Tricks. This cellar door and gin distillery is brimming with farm-style character and charm, just a ten-minute drive from the CBD with plenty of street parking.

Tasty wines made at the New Tricks Winery in Lyra near Stanthorpe. Artisanal spirits distilled on premises. Pizza, cheese plates, chip & dip plates, bowls of olives and bar snacks available.
