Event Details

Join us for an intimate Sunday afternoon of extraordinary live music with GOSTI.

Gosti is a world music trio featuring three master musicians: Tunji Beier (South Indian percussion), Philip Griffin (oud, laouto, rabab, bass guitar), and Linsey Pollak (self-designed wind instruments). Having played together over many years in various collaborations—including Ross Daly’s Australian Labyrinth, Dididumdum, The Balkanics, Makedonski Bop and Dva—they bring a rare depth of connection and musical understanding to the stage.

Their music is composed of original works, many influenced by traditional Macedonian forms, with a rich focus on complex rhythms and non-Western modes. Each musician contributes a vast palette of sounds, styles, and emotional textures, weaving together performances that are both intricate and deeply expressive.

What truly sets Gosti apart is the journey they take you on. Through masterful improvisation and an intuitive interplay between the trio, their music unfolds in a way that is both grounded and expansive—at once fresh and alive, yet carrying the depth and maturity of long-standing musical collaboration.

Tunji Beier began studying Yoruba drumming in Nigeria at the age of ten, later travelling to Bangalore to study at the Karnataka College of Percussion under T.A.S. Mani. In Gosti, he plays mridangam, kanjira, ghatam, zarb and morsing.

Philip Griffin is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, composer and musical director whose work spans an extraordinary range of styles and traditions. His playing defies categorisation, bringing both virtuosity and sensitivity to a diverse collection of stringed instruments.

Linsey Pollak, creator of the cross-cultural ensemble Slivanje for the first WOMADelaide, has developed and toured numerous innovative music projects worldwide. In Gosti, he performs on a range of wind instruments of his own design, alongside bass clarinet.

We are over the moon to be hosting these three incredible musicians for the second time at the Maleny Yoga Shed—an intimate space for community and shared experience. Their last performance here was truly unforgettable and sold out quickly, so we recommend booking early.

BYO drinks and something comfortable to sit on (timber-floor-friendly chair or cushion). Chai and soup will be available afterwards for those who’d like to stay and connect.
