Prog Stomp 2026 brings some of Australia’s heaviest progressive metal bands to PFR Lounge on Sunday, May 17. Thrash/death/modern metal meets groove, classicism, and jazz. Therein combine death metal with jazz and psychedelic influences, think Death meets Pink Floyd and The Mahavishnu Orchestra. Ahles hit the Brisbane scene hard in late 2024, infusing odd time signatures and intricate rhythms with death/thrash metal and acoustic instrumentation. Newcastle’s Age of Emergence bring big vocals and crushing mid-tempo stomp in their groove-oriented progressive metal. And rounding out the line-up are the modern progressive metal stylings of Hyperaesthesia, djent like rhythms with a melodic edge and musical precision.
