Event Details
An ALL AGES night of Meanjin’s noisy indie undercurrent! Alison + double date + 20th Century Boy + The Stirling Canon at Season Three (ummm yess please get in my belly).
‘Crunchy guitars are coming with Alison. Drawing influences from 90’s grunge / alt-rock, they’re one of Magandjin’s most exciting up and comers’ – GRAIN Magazine, 2025
‘Characterised by emotional chords and evocative songwriting, the music of Alison is akin to a long-awaited reunion with a family member, comforting, but still sombre’ – Ball Point Press, 2025
Loose, explosive, and completely their own — Meanjin’s double date thrive on instinct over rules. Their debut EP ‘in lampshade’ is a D.I.Y. stream of consciousness, pulling from indie-punk and shoegaze while leaving plenty of room for improvisation. Known for magnetic, high-energy live sets and a fast-growing cult following, double date are contemporary rock with no labels and no brakes.
20th Century Boy is a post-punk band from Meanjin that are quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with. Their eclectic sound weds dissonant feedback and distortion with classic pop structures and sing-along melody, lyrically weaving in topics ranging from video games and film sets to digital apocalypse and burnout. They’re often silly, they’re often sincere – and they mean every word, even when they don’t. No two songs in the set sound alike – and yet they all sound like 20th Century Boy.
The Stirling Canon is an outfit that you cannot wear. We are crooners with crosiers. We were born with the tag still on. Music that you can hear.
