FAVOURITE KID
‘Favourite Kid’ are a talented sibling trio who have bounced onto Queensland’s music scene blending the charm of indie-folk, the grit of alt-country, and the polish of modern pop. It all started over seven years ago when older brother and 2024 Queensland Music Award winner, Ethan, 28, started writing and recording his own songs and embarked on a solo musical journey under the moniker ‘Aspy Jones’. After 16 song releases and over 400,000 streams, he persuaded his talented younger sister, Jaimie, 25, and brother Saul, 23, to join him on this musical adventure. He recognised the magic that could be created with a family collaboration each adding their unique flair mixed with sibling harmonies, vibrant and lively storytelling and a delightful mix of family banter and sibling rivalry to their live shows. ‘Favourite Kid’ are heavily influenced by Vance Joy, Mumford & Sons, George Ezra, Cat Empire, Shepphard and The Lumineers and released their debut album ‘2 Cents Journal‘ with ARIA nominated producer Stuart Stuart, in November 2025.
‘Favourite Kid’ have already graced the renowned stages at many festivals including Woodford Folk Festival, Mitchell Creek, Rock and Blues Fest, Undercover Artist Festival and the Gympie Music Muster. Their exceptional talent earned them a Limelight Award when they played at the Caloundra Music Festival. ‘Favourite Kid’ were chosen to support ‘Fanny Lumsden‘ on her tour and also the legends that are ‘The Fabulous Caprettos’ featuring Daryl Braithwaite, Russell Morris, Rai Thistlethwaiteand Jack Jones. Songwriter, Ethan was also the first to win the Q Music Dalwood-Wylie Award at the Queensland Music Awards in 2024.
‘Favourite Kid’ originates from the musically rich country of Wales, known as ‘The Land of Song ‘, where they were born in Wrexham. Their musical journey continued when their parents moved to Australia, and they were raised in Gympie in regional Queensland. Here, they collectively embarked on their musical odyssey through enrolment in the ‘Rockskool’ at the Australian Institute of Country Music. Throughout their teenage years, their musical inclination led them to perform in separate bands due to sibling disagreements, reminiscent of the tempestuous dynamics of bands like ‘Oasis’. However, with maturity, they’ve harmonized their collaboration, setting aside disputes, although the timeless sibling question still remains: ‘Who is the Favourite Kid?’
THE LYRICAL
Born in Vanuatu, Karl moved to the Solomon Islands as a child of only 4 years old. Whilstgrowing up in Honiara, he played and created music with his neighbour Tommy (a.k.a. Solomon Kwatea). They developed their passion for music together, sitting near the radio, copying the music with their mouths because they had no instruments. “If we weren’t doing that, we were drumming on cardboard boxes with chopsticks or blowing through plastic pipe like a trumpet,” Karl says of his childhood with a reminiscent laugh.”
With a sound heavily influenced by island roots and reggae, hip-hop, country, The Lion King and even Aladdin’s Genie, This is really an act you need to see to understand… But no one walks away the same.
The Lyrical rose from the music scene in Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. The Queensland North Coast has always been a hotbed for new Australian talent in a variety of genres and the hip-hop/reggae scene is no exception to that tradition. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Ben Harper, Bob Marley and Michael Franti, The Lyrical reflects the ingenuity and musical aptitude it takes to be a great artist. The “Unique blend of beat-boxing meshed with folk guitar and socially conscious lyrics is fast becoming the hottest ticket in town,” – City News
The Lyrical has toured both Australia and internationally as well as releasing a hugely popular self-titled album, “The Lyrical,” to critical acclaim. He has supported some amazing artists (Everlast, The Beautiful Girls, Katchafire, Ash Grunwald, Brad Cox, Dallas Frasca, Natali Rize, Tikki Taane, Pete Murray, Illy, Trinity Roots and more), shared the stage and played with the likes of Ash Gruwald, Leon Mobley of The Innocent Criminals, and Blue King Brown. He’s rocked festivals and events such as; BIG DAY OUT, Byron Bay Bluesfest, PAX AUS, Gympie Music Muster, Caloundra Music Festival, Sprung Festival, Party in The Paddock, Island Vibes Festival, Festival Of The Sun, Red Deer Festival plus many, many more. The Lyrical has also had great radio and online success hitting No.1 SEVEN TIMES on Triple J’s Unearthed and gained a No.5 spot for Sweden’s “Top 50 Most Streamed Songs” for the year of 2015.
The Lyrical cut his teeth on the streets busking two nights a week for 7 years in the Valley in Brisbane and quickly became a well-known music champion to the thousands who stopped to dance and play along over the years. “I love busking,” tells Karl, “it’s the BEST way to talk to everyday people with your music, and when you busk… you hear the REAL truth about it… if people don’t like it… they tell you! If they think you’re inspiring… they tell you that too – it’s a magic place to grow as a musician!”
MADDISON KATE
Meanjin/Brisbane based Maddison Kate brings raw emotion to the hearts of her audience through delicately braided lyrics, sweeping folk melodies, and earthy tones. Maddison has played at renowned festivals such as Gympie Music Muster, Queensland Music Festival, Tamworth Country Music Festival, and released her debut EP ‘What I’d Say To You’ in 2025. Likened to folk legend Joni Mitchell by INXS member Andrew Farriss, Maddison Kate is a rising star to watch.
