Essay Club No.8: Holly Eddington on Six Years (Sold Out)

Join us at the IMA for Essay Club no. 8 with Holly Eddington. Together we’ll discuss a section from Lucy Lippard’s Six Years: The Dematerialization of the Art Object from 1966 to 1972, a famous experimental publication that echoes the decentralised nature of the art described—arranged as a chronological timeline filled with press releases, essays, interviews, and notes.

In an interview, Lippard described Six Years as more of ‘a curatorial project than a book’. Holly Eddington will consider how Lippard might have approximated an expanded responsibility of the arts worker across several fronts including new modes of exhibition-making, a redefined role of the arts writer, and a distinctly gendered form of cultural labour.

Holly Eddington is an independent curator and arts writer. She loiters between the gallery floor and the footnote, currently working at Milani Gallery in Meanjin/Brisbane. Holly specialises in experimental and off-site exhibition making. Recent curatorial projects include House of Dust, TCB Gallery, Naarm/Melbourne, 2026; A Narrow Strip Along a Steep Edge, Fort Lytton National Park, 2025; and Total Loss, Wreckers Art Space, 2026.
