History of the IMA
Launched in 2015, the IMA’s 40th Anniversary online archive brings together a general overview of each of the four decades of the organisation’s history.

Each section is accompanied by an interview with a past director, giving first-hand accounts of their experiences, and offers a selection of images from the 40 year exhibition history largely documented by the photographer Richard Stringer. This platform is intended as an introduction, a place to spark interest and encourage engagement with our contemporary programs and with the extensive primary source material held both in the IMA’s onsite archives and in the State Library of Queensland.
